While unable to achieve physical presence, AFMESI followed the proceedings closely and supports the key messages emerging from the Conference especially the urgent call for implementation, innovation, and equitable ocean governance.
Where the World is today on this agenda is remarkably encouraging looking back to the UN- Rio+20 were the global dialogue on ocean sustainability gained greatest momentum so to say, as represented in the outcome document “The Future we want”.
AFMESI is urging continuous African representation in global ocean gatherings and support to raising the tempo of science-based and people-centered Blue Economy strategies.
AFMESI is indeed encouraged to continue with the effort directed at collaborating with governments, multilateral partners, and coastal communities to deliver on healthy oceans for sustainable socio-economic development where” no one is left behind”.
We pledge also to contribute actively to the implementation pathways and collaborating to shape a resilient ocean future for Africa and beyond.
