On this World Ecology Day 2025, AFMESI reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding Africa’s marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and the life-giving functions of our oceans. As we face climate change, biodiversity loss, and increasing pollution pressures, this day reminds us that ecological balance is not optional — it is essential for sustainable development and social equity.
We call on governments, corporates, civil society, coastal communities, and youth across the continent to unite behind a shared vision:
- Mainstream ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) into all marine and blue economy strategies,
- Scale investment in restoration, ocean science, clean maritime technologies, and
- Empower communities, women, and youth as custodians of their coasts.
At AFMESI, we believe that effective ecology is built on science, indigenous knowledge, inclusive governance, and accountability. On this day, and every day, we recommit to driving ocean resilience, sustainable fisheries, clean coasts, and equitable blue growth across Africa’s 38 coastal nations.
