The African Marine Environment Sustainability Initiative (AFMESI) is pleased to announce its upcoming symposium and workshop on Sustainable Ocean Action in Africa, under the overarching theme: ACHIEVING BLUE GROWTH IN A CHANGING CLIMATE (INTEGRATING THE COASTAL COMMUNITIES) to be accompanied by a workshop. The event is scheduled to take place at the Best Western Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, from the 24th to 25th of September, 2024. The event aims to bring together key stakeholders, experts, and practitioners to discuss and strategize on sustainable practices for the conservation and preservation of Africa’s marine environment. The workshop is targeting a total of 100 invited participants engaging physically and up to fifty (50) joining virtually from across Africa and other parts of the world. This is in keeping with the annual ritual of AFMESI in galvanizing actions towards supporting sustainable Ocean prosperity in Africa. Our annual Symposia usually provide avenues for driving resolutions and their appropriate implementation tools to the benefit of coastal countries in Africa and their landlocked neighbours. They have brought together researchers, academics, coastal community members and more to raise awareness and share knowledge on this significant issue for which there are minimal global regulations. The themes for the last two were “Marine Pollution Prevention and Control Towards Blue Economy” and “AFRICAN BLUE WORLD WHICH WAY TO GO” respectively. They increasingly saw more regional and international participation and brought Blue Economy as a Sustainability area the Federal Government of Nigeria should key into. Besides, the resolutions from these Symposia have resulted in new pan-African partnerships for our marine environments and the creation of AFMESI’s Strategic Work plan (2021 -2026).
Please note that attendance is strictly by invitation!
