AFMESI Participates in Landmark National Stakeholders’ NDC 3.0 Validation Workshop 🇳🇬
On August 27, 2025, AFMESI had the honor of participating in the National Stakeholders’ NDC 3.0 Validation Workshop, a pivotal event organized by the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC). The workshop marked a significant step in Nigeria’s climate journey, bringing together government officials, development partners, civil society, and other key stakeholders to review and validate Nigeria’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0).

The workshop’s central theme was the transition from climate planning to decisive action. As emphasized by the Director-General of the NCCC, Tenioye Majekodunmi, “the time for talk is over… our actions today will shape the future of generations to come.” This sentiment was echoed by other speakers, including representatives from the NDC Partnership, UNDP, the EU delegation, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Key takeaways from the discussions included:
- A Call for Action and Implementation: Nigeria’s NDC 3.0 is not just a document, but a robust roadmap for green growth, climate justice, and sustainable development. The focus is on implementing ambitious, realistic, and inclusive climate plans.
- Capacity and Finance: A major highlight was the collective recognition of the need for stronger capacity building and mobilizing climate finance. The AfDB noted that despite the availability of funds, weak governance structures have hindered Nigeria’s ability to attract climate finance.
- Partnership and Collaboration: The workshop underscored the importance of a “whole-of-government and whole-of-society” approach. International partners, including the UNDP, EU, GIZ, and others, were commended for their unwavering support in the development of NDC 3.0.
