Major General Jonathan India Garba trained as a Combatant, Strategist, Logistician and Administrator. A native of Tsar, Benue State, he holds an advanced Diploma in Transportation, specializing in Highway/Rail and an advanced Diploma in Petroleum with emphasis on Installation Management. He also possesses an Msc Degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan and a Doctorate degree in Strategic Management Studies. A seasoned military officer, Major General J. I. Garba worked tirelessly for the defense of his fatherland and held several appointments in the Nigerian Army such as Commander, Division Supply and Transport, Deputy Director, Logistics Planning, Chief of Logistics, Head of Research and Development, among many others and retired honourably in 2003 after having a distinguished career. While in service, General Garba earned many medals, awards and qualifications including the Forces Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Corps Medal of Honour. Gen J. I. Garba is a detribalized Nigerian, a visionary and prudent manager of both human and material resources. He has a strong passion for the sustainable management of the Blue Economy. A cause for which he believes has great potentials to serve as a major forex earner for Nigeria and has canvassed for efforts to be geared to achieving that goal at different fora, both at home and overseas, including at meetings facilitated by the International Maritime Organization. As a result of his sense of discipline and dedication to duty, General Garba was honoured with a federal appointment in 2016 as the Board Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). He provided the Management of NIMASA, critical supports in policy and industry implementations. He was a member of Nigeria’s delegation to the first global conference on Blue Economy held in Kenya.
