On the 21st of June 2024, the President was invited as a guest speaker at the 2024, World Hydrography day celebration by the Nigerian Navy and her Hydrographic Agency. She used the opportunity to discuss the critical role of hydrography in coastal zone management and environmental protection. Inspired by the Navy’s dedication to developing local charts and their commitment to enhancing marine safety, she also emphasized the importance of creating pollution charts, such as noise pollution, climate change charts to save as early warning information, and representing the wealth and values in Nigeria’s extended Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ) on charts and so on. She advocated for collaboration between maritime Agencies and the Navy for effective Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) in areas like the Marina. Reporting further, she said, “Kudos to the Nigerian Navy for their unwavering commitment to maritime excellence and environmental stewardship. Their dedication to developing local charts, enhancing marine safety, and contributing to coastal zone management is truly commendable. We applaud their efforts in ensuring a sustainable maritime environment and look forward to continued collaboration for the greater good. Together, we can work towards a sustainable and thriving maritime environment” She said as the present leadership took time to speak, the power of collaboration and honoring the legacy of dedication was evident: It was heartwarming to witness the Chief of Naval Staff and CEO. & Navy Hydrographic Agency’s present leadership acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the retired staff who laid the foundation for the agency’s success.
